Local Area

La Zenia is a thriving coastal town, perfectly situated for beautiful beaches, local amenities and infrastructure.

La Zenia is accessible on the N332, which runs along the South Coast between Benidorm and Cartagena. The AP7 toll road is situated at the rear of La Zenia and is ideal for San Javier Airport in Murcia, which is only 15 − 20 minutes away. In the opposite direction the AP7 leads to El Altet Airport in Alicante, which is about a 45 minute drive.

La Zenia has an amazing, white sandy beach with an array of bars and local eateries close by. La Zenia Hotel is located on the seafront, the 4 star establishment offers amazing views over the Mediterranean and the restaurant offers a wide selection of meals including a buffet. The hotel has its own indoor and outdoor pool. Use of the pool external pool costs from about 2 euros per day for children and there is an additional poolside bar.

La Mirada is a restaurant and café with a conservatory area which overlooks the beach. The café serves hot and cold snacks, beverages, ice creams and tapas.

There are a large range of restaurants and bars in La Zenia on both sides of the N332. Al and Benny´s is an American restaurant on the beachside that serves burgers, fries, steaks, chicken and pastas. Indigo´s is along the same strip and is an extremely popular Indian restaurant. Gato Verde (Green Cat) and Gato Rosa (Pink Cat) are beachside bars that are well worth a visit.

The bars are both quite strange in character. Gato Rosa is decorated in vibrant shades of pink with fluffy pink cushions on the seats and even the toilet seat and mats are pink. Likewise Gato Verde is decorated in a fluorescent green shade. The walls are adorned with black and white copies of old movies stars and although rather eccentric, the bars are a lot of fun. They are famous for serving large cocktails and long drinks in huge wine goblets and the prices are quite cheap. They also run poetry nights, for those who like to recite, listen to, or write their own verses.

There is a wide choice of amenities in La Zenia including a pharmacy, bank, Supermarket, electrical store, English supermarket, second hand furniture shop, an internet café, a bodega, a garden centre, dentist, 24hour shop and a taxi rank. There are a few gift shops but Ponderosa is well worth a visit. There you will be able to find English gift cards, an array of costume jewelry, ornaments, candles, ornamental clocks and various other unusual nick knacks.

A new commercial centre is currently under construction at the back of La Zenia, near the AP7 toll road. It is expected to be completed within the next 12 months and will look like the Habaneras Centre in Torrevieja. The actual shell of the building has already been completed and work men are currently forming the roof. This is a fantastic investment for the area and means that local residents will not have to travel to Murcia or Torrevieja to find great shops.
